Winter is basically a time when along with the season, your fashion choices shift to something that is more comfortable with the colder weather, and as with other things, this includes your makeup. One of the most important things to remember during fall and winter to keep your skin from being dry, which usually happens during colder months is to moisturise. Choose a good moisturiser or face cream so that your skin does not get dry under the weather. It is better if you use a moisturiser with lighter consistency than heavy ones so that it does not sit under your skin for too long before applying your makeup.
When it comes to foundations, you can choose silicone-based foundations. For winter parties, powder make-up foundations are very well recommended since they are more resistant to weather changes. One of the best kinds of powder foundations are mineral makeup because they usually come in crushed powder form. They glide on smoothly on your skin, giving you that natural look that works best with fall and winter earth tones that are in trend during this season. Try to avoid liquid foundations as they do not work as well with temperature changes unlike powder types of makeup. Skip heavy foundation as the cold weather can result to a cakey look and obvious makeup lines when not blended well.
When it comes to lip products like lipstick, stains and lip balms, look at the ingredients carefully. Look at those containing beeswax instead of alcohol. Alcohol makes your lips dependent on the lip balm, and when you do not use it, your lips become even more dry than before. Try to avoid shades of pink and red during the winter, as this causes your skin to look reddish, and red and pink hues also look better on skin during the summer when the weather is more sunny.
One of the most common misconceptions people have about skin care is that they do not have to apply sunscreen during the winter. However, this is doing your skin a disservice as UVA and UVB can still penetrate and cause lasting damage on your skin even when the sun does not seem to be visible. If you want a more simple and less complicated makeup routine, you can try using multi-purpose products such as tinted moisturisers that contain SPF. This solves all your major winter skin problems at less cost and with more convenience. Also remember to exfoliate your skin regularly, to slough off dead skin cells and help the appearance of new ones. This goes for your entire body, like your feet, elbows and knees, and not just your face. Though during the winter time you will mostly be covered up, it never hurts to prep your skin for the skin-baring season of the summer to come.
